Effective Body Weight Workouts for Bodyweight Workout Programs

Body weight workouts are the most misunderstood and underestimated methods for enhancing lean muscle mass and natural strength.
 

Most trainers and fitness seekers can't see past traditional body weight workouts consisting of push-ups, pull-ups and dips. However, there is a whole lot more to creating results delivering, full body, bodyweight workouts that require little or no equipment.

Before I go any further, it must be told that both men and women can follow properly structured, body weight workouts and get definite, visible results that are in line with fitness goals ranging from slimming, shaping and toning to strength and muscle building.
 
The biggest hurdle for most people to get over when considering bodyweight workouts for a fitness program is the question of, "How can a body weight workout routine replace one that uses weight training and machine type workouts?"
 

It is easy to see how psychology can be an obstacle in trying to help people understand that properly structured bodyweight workouts can be better than traditional weight lifting and exercise machine workouts.
 

Traditional workouts offer so many options and variations, almost endless actually. Whereas bodyweight workouts rely on creativity blended with a
keen understanding of how the human body works and what exercises stimulate healthy and safe fitness progression.

Many fitness professionals believe that body weight workouts offer only a limited amount of workout options and are very general in nature, meaning that there is no ability to target and isolate specific muscle groups during a bodyweight workout. This is a huge mis-perception that prevents many fitness success stories from ever happening.
 

Here's why. When people get into the 'gym mentality' of only being able to workout with equipment and machines, they set themselves up for many future episodes of 'falling off the program'. Body weight workouts completely eliminate this excuse.
 

Here's an example where body weight workouts are a much more effective than traditional gym workouts. You go on vacation or you go out of town on business, or maybe to visit friends for a few days. So many times these events become excuses for people not sticking to their workout routine because they 'didn't have access to a gym'.

With a well rounded, body weight workout program this excuse does not apply. The right body weight workouts can be done anywhere and anytime. They can be done at home, in the office, in a hotel or even on a playground.
 

And in terms of effectiveness - I can only say through personal experience with my own body weight workouts and those of the clients who I have trained that when planned properly and followed consistently, bodyweight workouts can be even more effective than most weight training or machine based workout programs.
 

Body weight workouts offer 'gym/fitness veterans' - both male and female - a refreshing, eye-opening alternative to the those boringly repetitive weight and machine training programs. Even more importantly, bodyweight workouts offer sedentary fitness beginners a safe, non-intimidating and effective method for starting a home based fitness program.
 

Another beneficial aspect of body weight workouts is that they are appropriate for most age groups. My kids are always happy to join in when I am doing my bodyweight workout on the weekend or while on vacation - and they range in age from 3 to 11 years old.

I've also trained clients in their late seventies, successfully using body weight workout programs. Not all body weight exercises are appropriate for every body but generally speaking they are safer than workouts that only utilize weight training and machines.
 

Whether you are just beginning or you've been 'pumping the weights' for some time now, give some consideration to the benefits and advantages of properly structured body weight workouts and how they can help you move forward in your fitness and conditioning goals.
 

Open up your mind to the possibility of a bodyweight workout being a part of your overall fitness plan and see where it takes you. You'll be very pleased and maybe a bit surprised with the results.
